If you just have sand (or perhaps even just sand on top) then the substrate does not need vacuumed as any mulm just sits on top or gets dealt with by a filter.
Definitely a funny looking pair.
To me, the male looks more like nijsseni than baenschi.
The female doesn’t look like anything in particular.
I would be seeking more info from the well known breeder.
About 30 years ago, I managed to buy a large bottle of levamisole hydrochloride from a farm supplier.
