Hey joe,
I am working in king of Prussia right now as well. I do demolition and am demoing the old biomed building. You can see it from 476 at exit 13, on the left if you are headed south.
Anyways, I am about 25 mins south from exit 13 on 476, to 95 S.
As I said the fish won't be sexable for...
Hey joe, philidelphia over here! I'll have some unsexable juvies for sale(A. Cacatuoides) in about 1-2 months or sexable juvies in 3-4. Put my breeding pair together last night. If you don't want to wait that long lots of places carry them on occasion around here. That pet place usually has...
I have noticed in most fish when young they have tons of the glue glimmer in the face. Many as they get older lose it, or lose some. But I have noticed most of my fish have lots more of that blue when young, and it stands out more. Not always true, but more often than not has been for me, in...
Just to add my 2 cents in I prefer to remove the fry and mother from the father after 1 week to 1 month depending on how everything is going. In some cases the father has to go after 1 day but I generally prefer 1 month.
My reasons are this, and I don't have any more evidence then my own...
I'm a big fan of cacatuoides even if they are the most popular it's for a good reason.
Of the "rare" apistogramma my favorite are A. Sp. Abacaxis of which I just got a wild caught pair I will be trying to breed soon. They are just stunning little fish.
Thank you Kevin! The compliments mean quite a lot coming from such an experienced apisto guy such as yourself. I pride myself on the quality of my fish and take large pains to provide them with excellent food and water! And, I absolutely LOVE the name! Ammo would be proud!
Later this week...
I have a few females in an open top. I have never had a problem. They've been in there quite some time. However it doesn't matter what fish it is, the risk of them jumping is ALWAYS there. I will say it's a pretty safe bet they will not jump, but they may decide to one day just like every...
Thanks a ton for all the info darrell. And yea that was the article =P. I forgot all about it but you recently linked it somewhere and I reread it yesterday.
I will have to keep an eye out for some alder cones.
She's not so big, but fairly large for a female. Maybe 2 and 1/2" to be honest I haven't paid much attention to her size. I can look when I get home today.
Hey there just noticed this thread. Wanted to throw out a few things you mentioned that caught my eye.
I have a male A. Cacatuoides that is pretty close to 4" at the moment. He's only about a year old. He not be 4 but he's not far from it.
Secondly, I keep celestial pearl danios as dither...
Thanks guys for the quick responses, I'm not sure of the scientific name for it(will check at lunch in a few moments) but the sweet gum I'm referring to drops little spiky balls.
Edit-Indeed that was the tree I was talking about. Does these leaf produce a good amount of humic substance(can you...
Hey guys so I will be adding leaf litter to a tank soon, and I found a bunch of sweet gum leaves but I can't figure out anywhere if they are safe. I know you guys have a bit of knowledge about it. Anyone know?
Hey there, I live in philly. I breed cacatuoides and will be getting a wild A. SP. Abacaxis that I plan on breeding. I just sold my last A. Cacatuoides to a member of this forum last weekend. His name is Kevin Smith, if you check the apistos in philly thread below this one and go to the last...
I'm absolutely thrilled you like the little guy! He is a gorgeous fish and hopefully he will inherit his father's finnage! You will have one nice looking flash is so! Make sure to keep us updated with pics as he grows! Post us some pics on Facebook if possible. I love seeing the little guys...
Haha, mine was the same way. She had two places one she started the second she would move the fry to if I poked my nose around to much. She always had the same order as well.
Good luck with saving your babies, try a bottle trap with some live blackworms inside.
