Hi all..
Many Killiefish-breeders I know boil their natural "sedimented" peat (brown "dug-up" bog-peat) before using/putting it in a tank..
After boiling.. my friend in the Basement+me then often leave the peat in a tank with good new water(pH 6,5) for some days to let small/dusty particles...

Hi Rene + all..
If you want to put some extra work into your dream/project of collecting endemically "Guapore-species" you may want to contact the KFN..(Killifish Nederlands) ??
They will soon have their annual exhibition ... in Asperen if I remember it correct..??
Some of the best...
Maybe a late recieved guess from my part..???
Female to the left, male to the right.. !!??
"Female" with higher/shorter bodyform + more prominent/intense black body-spot/spots on the golden "background"(I think the "male" looks more pale..!!??) + slightly shorter and somehow bent...
OK, I see...
A male of cacatouides should be no big trouble for your local dealer to fix I hope... it`s a worse task to get hold of any single Apisto female.!!
Good luck in finding matching Apisto-partners..!:)
If you can.. and to be sure...please post a pic of the "pair"..
Sometimes you may get/buy two females who/which both may "appreciate" the cave so to speak..(?)..
If the the size-difference was the primary criteria when netting them in the store.., this may be the case in this/your...
The pic in post #8 is/ought to be a male A. macmasteri..
In post #9 Pic nr 1 looks like a female A. cacatouides..
.. and pic 2 looks like a male of A. erythrura.. (It is also often sold as A. spec. "Rio Mamore" )
Often..( if the tank is heavily planted/decorated).. some fry might have escaped into any "safe" place when the pair start/prepair to spawn again..
So you may have some left that you are not aware of at this moment..(??)
If they get new fry, the female will try to chase the older fry away from...
I thought it was about time to put up this link once again .. a great lecture in English..from Dr. Uwe Römer ..for all who may have the interest.. (last+1st(?) time I think Peter in England put it up here..? )
OK.. interesting...
This is the case with other fishes too I`ve heard (killie-fishes)...but I don`t know if it has been verified/stated in experiments..
At this size.. I would say/guess quite soon..(at least if no other stronger/dominant fish is in the same tank!!)
Don`t know if the gender-ratio follows the temp., like with many Apistos..
..where the gender is developed "according" to what temp. is in the water ..,the first weeks as...
Unfortunately...I guess I see what you mean.... "Money talks- Bullshit walks.." !!??
As a person..it sure can be a "circus" in what to prioritize in this life ..
, but from a larger view(political??) it ought to be no "hard thinking/tough decision" in what to support+preserve locally... (I...
Anyone here planning a new SouthAmerican Biotope Tank..??;)

.. One other thing...
Will you get more "survivers" of the fry if you fill the whole tank with Java-moss(Vesicularia ) or any similar plant??
This is often the case with fry of the killi-fishes..(since they probably are having very well-developed teeth already when being young!!??)
So.... when...
Thanks for all nice info.. !!
Some times(quite often) I`ve gotten aggressive behaviours on many Cichlids when changing large amounts of water .. it changes the EC I guess? (and
also the TDS and other parameters..)
"My" :) theory is that this cause a kick in the "spawning-hormones" .. and often...
OK Mike + lamchops .. I will have to hold back my enthusiasm a bit then... it sure looks like a female though..
Quite yellow + no metallic blue color on gill covers.. + almost no patterns on the dorsal/anal fin-tips..+ the realtively short pelvic fins..+ it doesn`t seem to show any elongated...
Good to know Mike ! Awesome.. Thanks!!
(I promise to fix+send your family an autograph from Peter Forsberg #21 ..if I ever see him in this town!!, I read an early thread of yours the other day!!;) .. "This is a small town"/country you know!!))
I may buy a couple of the "Cristal" from the Czech...
