i noticed that there were other fish in the tank that were also imported as "Viejita Yellow" which these were, so i assumed they were WC fish and didnt know if they were the same species. It seems like they are now that there are no other males in the tank and this female is in breeding dress.
Hello everyone,
I have found these fish at my local fish store and have been tempted to get them, but I'd like to know the species before i get them. I have taken a few photos of the male and beleive they resemble an Eunotus type fish, however I'm unsure if they are the same species and what...
Tank sounds like it needed an upgrade, :) also I'm going to assume orange flame means A. Cacatudoies.
Even though two males without any females are much less aggressive, keeping 2 apistos of different species in a 20 gallon is likely a recipe for disaster. I would just stick with one and...
I have used Canadian red oak and I find them to have some humic acids and tannic acids, but i usually just use them for structure and aldercones for adding blackwater acids. I find red alder cones (Alnus rubra) are easier to come by here and produce very nice tannis after boiling for 30 minutes...
Borellii or wapisina (if you can find them) would be my first choices for such a small tank, you can definitely breed bigger species in a 10 but that requires lots of experience and attention to aggression.
Welcome to the site! You have some very nice fish, but they definitely are not viejita but a beautiful apisto pair nonetheless. A better photo of the male may help in identifying them.
I agree that the fish aren't Viejita, but It is quite hard to tell from the lowest photo, but id say macmasteri-complex females. Not sure the species, however.
Both, sadly, we also broke 49.6 degrees centigrade this summer in some parts of the province (one of which was completely demolished by a fire, ) Which I believe is the hottest temperatures recorded ever in Canada.
Ahhhh, climate change.
Welcome to the site, and that's a beautiful tank you have there! In my opinion, you should be able to keep apistos in it because of how well-structured it is. This wouldn't be a breeding tank though, so any fry would be eaten, as cardinals and danios are effective fry predators. The apistos...
Thank you very much for the reply macZ,
If i used a small amount of peat moss in the water before each waterchange would that help bring the ph down more quickly? Or is this method not very useful, as i know it has certain downsides.
Thanks again!
Hello everyone,
I am doing a project for my school that is going to be a Biotope aquarium, particularly the Columbian section of this river.
I will be using a dense layer of leaf litter and alder cones to help get my water parameters down to blackwater conditions, if anyone has photos of this...
I agree with mike, you have a dominant male on the left and a less dominant one on the right.
Are you located in Canada by chance? I have 2 extra adult female erythrura.
if you are located in the United States if not wetspot or apistogramma breeders on band.us have them often!
