Beautiful pair. I hope mine will look even half as nice one day.

    Wow! I'm so proud!

    Early Christmas gift!

Newly free-swimming D. maculatus fry are TINY - only slightly bigger than baby gouramis. I wouldn't risk shipping them (or wrigglers) until they're at least 3/4 of an inch, & as they grow slowly that could take a while. In my first successful breeding attempt I siphoned the wrigglers from an...

    Early Christmas gift!

I still have a male & 3 females. They've been spawning like clockwork, but I haven't had time to raise up some more fry. I'll make an effort over the holidays. BTW I got a close to 50/50 sex ratio in super soft NYC tap water pH 6.

    Sweet! Thanks.

    Agassizii or Tefe'?

Got some better shots. Any idea which population of agassizii they are?

    Agassizii or Tefe'?

Sorry I couldn't get a better photo; the male has been keeping a low profile since the female brought out her fry a few days ago. The male's dorsal & caudal resemble the ones I've seen in photos of Tefe' "Pearl Blue". They still have a lot of growing to do & I'm curious to find out which strain...

    Agassizii or Tefe'?

Picked up a pair of these at an LFS a few weeks back. They were very small when I first purchased them & I assumed that they were agassizii, but lately the male has started to look Tefe'-ish to me.

    Apisto ID help.

I've kept several Apistogrammas for several years and I have yet to see a male that produced eggs... But then - with all these new technologies, I guess anything is possible...

    Apisto ID help.

Why not ? They make excellent parents & the fry are fearless & grow very rapidly.

    Apisto ID help.

I've been keeping & breeding A. panduro for over a year. Lovely species, but the males don't seem to produce many eggs ;)

Your "female" looks like a male Apistogramma panduro.

    Buying Congochromis dimidiatus in NYC

I recently acquired 6 C. dimidiatus juvies; all turned out to be female. If any one can spare one or two males I'd be happy to take them off your hands. I'm located in Brooklyn, NY.

    Cupid's Arrow

Very impressive, & the L-397 are nothing to sneeze at either!

    Pelvicachromis kribensis ID

Lobe is one of the few forms of P. kribensis where the males lack any spots in the caudal fin. Good luck with them!

    Pelvicachromis kribensis ID

Judging by the red streak on its cheek I'd say Dehane.

    Early Christmas gift!

In the Linke/Staeck book they state that in broods raised with low pH values ( I assume 5.0 or so ) only 5% of the young were males.

    Early Christmas gift!

Time will tell. At the rate they're growing I should be able to accurately sex them sometime in mid-2020.

    Early Christmas gift!

I'd heard that pH determined the sex ratio in D. maculatus, with a low pH (5.0 - 5.5) resulting in a majority of females. I've been raising my fry in very soft water (gH >1<) with a pH close to neutral, which are supposedly the conditions in their natural biotope. I'm hoping for a more balanced...
