Im not sure if Alder trees are native to USA and Canada but if you get really stuck i could send some over from the UK, it would cost a bit though as they would make a fairly bulky package..
Let me know if you get really stuck.
Problems like this are almost always due to water quality, its easy to damage the fish with a couple of days without water changes and even when you resume a normal routine its quite often too late and the damage has been done, quite often the gills get damaged and the fish drop one by one, its...
Hydra are not something ive ever had a problem with.. Several friends do have problems with them though.
One uses the battery method and actually touches the hydra with the copper wire, this zaps them and kills them off..
The second uses apple snails and explained to me that they are...
Hi Gerald, your welcome to a copy.. Ill send it direct to your inbox, just send me your email address..
Ive never suffered with bloat in dicrossus so cannot really comment, ill Apistos do tend to bloat up sometimes but in a busy hatchery with thousands of fry its easier to knock them on the...
Nice thread on a cracking group of fish.. Im also a big fan.
We recently got into a very interesting debate on Dicrossus at the British cichlid association website..

Ive bred D.filamentosus(Rio Orinoco) in...
Hi guys, sorry to hear of your misfortunes, ive got Apistos coming in from Peru tomorrow night so this thread makes me quite nervous at what to expect!!
In my experience large scale losses are usually down to ammonia poisoning in the bags, the DOA's seen to indicate that the fish didnt...
Thanks for the apology.. Im really not interested who you are or if it would bring about dire consequences for myself or for you!!!
All im concerned about is that the picture used was taken by myself and was reused here without permission..
Its not a commercial advert and your not trying...
The fish is Apistogramma sp 'Kelleri' the fish pictured is a beauty and i know thjat because it lives in my fishroom..
The picture you have "borrowed" happens to be mine and in this hobby it is polite to contact the owner of a photograph before using it yourself!!!! I cannot remember you...
Ed, Tom, thank you for showing some kind of support, the sad thing is that it should not be needed, i initially started the thread and in the opening post clearly stated that the purpose of the thread was to gather together people who were keeping and breeding this interesting species, i even...
Right firstly, are you a fishbreeder with any experience of genetics? if not, get off your high horse and calm down!
If you re-read the posts above you will find that i have just sourced a second pair of wild Kelleri which just about makes me one of the only hobbiests in the UK with more...
Id be interested to see how you would progress if only very limited numbers are available, if you received the only unrelated pair in your country, how would you establish them as a aquarium fish in your country??
Very nice Ruki... Mine are very shy, the female bolts as soon as i try to take pics!! the male was forced to the back and has taken no part at all in broodcare..
Stunning fish.
Hi Joe, there is a great thread on the British cichlid association forum about this problem, it may be of some help.. http://www.britishcichlid.org.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1090
A few pics of A.sp.'kelleri' juveniles, these fish are around 2 months old now and growing fast, most seem to be developing a lot of blue spangling so i would assume males?? only time will tell.
For what its worth i also imported A.veijita last month expecting macmasteri, they sent me cacatuoides with a few Eunotus types mixed in!!! obviously a few Peru species are making their way into Botoga?
The fish are definately sp.masken and not A.atahualpa.. Im currently breeding atahualpa and they are totally different, heres pics of genuine Apistogramma atahualpa. Tell Apisto Jim who you bought them from that he is completely wrong with his identification. Maybe direct him to this...
They are already pretty well conditioned Mike but mainly copious amounts of whiteworm, a home made mash containing prawn, mussel, white fish plus greens and baby guppies, they love them!!!
Ive made the larger water change tonight, raised the PH from 4.2 upto 5.5 to see if it will trigger...
