Its quite a mystery. If you look at my hongsloi thread in the cichlid ID section, these are the two "supposed females" pictured there. One of them sometimes has more color.
Wow, I need to feed baby brine shrimp every day just in case one day they have fry? I can get the cubes of frozen baby brine shrimp (instead of the frozen brine shrimp cubes) but I feel like most of it drifts away and goes to waste. I suppose there isn't much bioload in the tank anyway so...
Its the one I think is a sleeper male. With the other definite males gone he is still quite shy and hasn't colored up much. Maybe he is too young. Or maybe its two females.
Hi, I'm thinking of getting a "endoscopic" waterproof camera so that I can put it into the apisto hut and see if they have eggs or fry in there. That way I can give special food for the fry once they are born. Has anyone done this? Is it a good idea?
One of my Hongsloi apistogrammas spends a lot of time in his coconut hut and has piled up sand in front of it, high enough that he has to go on his side to get in and out.

I forgot to add, I also treated the main tank with salt and a medication for a few days because the female had fin deterioration and the male seemed lethargic and was flashing. They are both doing much better now and have good appetites and the females fin no longer looks as ragged.
Here's an update:
Sleeper and the female seem to be doing well, they have better appetite and are getting along, although sleeper still doesnt' have much color. He is probably too young to be fully colored.
The male with possible columnaris recovered after using salt and some medicine, but with...
Got the tests:
KH 50 mg/L
GH 150 mg/L
Ph has dropped to 7 either due to adding lots of leaves and alder cones, or the herbal anti bacterial stuff I added from ruby reef.
I can't get katappa leaves quickly but will order some.
The male in the hospital tank has fuzzy stuff on his mouth that looks...
I've ordered a test that does kH
I guess I'm getting into more advanced fish keeping with the apistos and need to learn about more than just nitrogen ;)
I didn't test it, presumably about 0 since I filled it with tap water 2 days ago and haven't been adding much food (he only eats a few brine shrimp at a time
