So I bought some red pencilfish which, on closer inspection (and ID advice from Tom) are N. rubrocaudatus. I have them in my planted tank so will see how they go on. Had them about a week and they seem to be getting on well so far. Lovely fish. Hope I get them to breed.
I think you may have misunderstood me. Yes, I am trying to learn, but I am trying to learn where you have got this information from. When I studied parasites some years ago there was no mention of any kind of pore or anus, but only a blind-ended gut in trematodes. Yes, they have an excretory...
I don't wish to sound disrespectful, but where are you getting this information from? My idea of a complete gut includes an anus - which flukes don't have. Also, whilst flukes have an attachment organ, I've never heard of it described as a scolex outside of the cestodes.
Actually I'll retract what I said about the nematodes (last pic) at the end, however, as they could be larvae. The rounded shape at one end does resemble the head end of hookworms
What makes you think they are trematodes? Trematodes don't have a scolex and it doesn't appear obvious on the picture anyway. Also the images in 1-5 appear to have a structure running the length of the object which may be some kind of gut - trematodes have blind-ended guts and cestodes have no...
The other day I noticed one of my amazon sword leaves partly emersed so I pulled it out completely to expose it to the air. This morning I was wondering whether the splash tetras would lay on it or not.
Tonight I took this photo (top leaf).
Re-homed them now. Hope this works. I had a sponge filter but it's too big for the 10litre tank so dug out an old airstone. Got to keep it in the cupboard under my big tank so rigged up a low wattage bulb too. Seem some semi-shoaling already.
It's only about 3 or 4 inches above water level. The males can easily splash that high. I removed the leaf and put it in a tub with my C. compta fry anyway.
Let's hope so. Only in a small take away plastic tub at the moment though. Been using a turkey baster to do daily water changes. Am considering putting them in a breeding net in the main tank.
