Okay, that makes sense. May I ask if there is a way to obtain realistic measurements so that I don't have to guess? I'm pretty sure there are methods used in laboratories, but I'm looking for something that a “normal hobbyist” can use :)
I wanted to buy some test strips today, as Mac suggested...
Ok, thanks.
I am using the JBL Drip test. To extend the range, I used 4 ml of RO Water plus 1 ml of tank water, since the Initial test was showing a color much darker than the max. value of the kit (1 mg/l).
Thank you all for your responses. I was a little concerned because of the high levels of nitrite.
To be honest, if it's not just the decaying plant material, I have no idea what else it could be. The only things I add are the tea that Mac described in post no. 4 on the first page of this...
Hello everyone,
I would like to give a quick update here. Contrary to expectations, I have now been experiencing a nitrite spike for exactly 7 days.
Five days ago, I changed 50% of the water, after which the nitrite level rose again.I'll do another wc today, since the test shows a...
Okay, I understand what you're saying. I will keep an eye on the lighting situation.
Regarding lilies... I really like them, even though they can become a pest. I had this issue with a discus aquarium a long time ago. If they start to take over, I will intervene somehow. For now, I'm just...
Thanks @anewebie. I didn't know these connection between light and pH. Really interesting.
For now I do not see any algae and just limited growth. Especially the nymphaea lotus is kinda producing a new leaf every other day.
But, to be honest, I do not know the par I offer my plants, since I do...
@anewbie
That is an interesting thread. I will read through it since you are discussing a lot of topics that I am actually thinking about right now, as well.
@Mac
I guess they must have changed. I checked on my bottle if there are any differences between the declaration and the one on their...
Yes, I read parts of it and I like it so far. I was just curious, because the Tropica Specialized fertililzer doesn't mention Ca in its "list of ingedrients".
I understand that patience is key, and I’m willing to take my time to ensure the fish have a good life.
I will definitely continue with weekly water changes, although I may reduce the amount of water changed after a year or so, depending on how the tank develops.
Hey Guys,
it's me again. Since I am going to setup the tank this weekend, I have one question about the "cycling"-phase.
How many and how much water changes would you do?
After "cycling" (let's say 4 weeks), what would be your recommondation for water changes? I am planning 50% per week. Do...
This is crazy. I unfortunately have no pictures of mine, because the vallisnerias were done in within two weeks. If I could get this results in a softwater and nearly-no-KH-tank, I'd be pleased. I definately am going to try it. Thank you!
Oh, for real? This sounds really interesting.
You know, I saw pictures of your tank and that is where my question regarding alternatives to valisneria came from.
Thanks again.
I do not want to use Vallisneria, because I had real bad experiences with those in low KH-Water. But i will have a look at the alternatives you just mentioned.
Okay, the Tropica fertilizer sounds perfect, since i can buy it locally. I already read Darrels post partially and will...
Hello everyone,
I am currently planning a soft water aquarium for an Apistogramma and some tetras/pencil fish. The aquarium will have a capacity of around 180 liters and a base area of 100 cm x 40 cm.
As I would like to achieve a black water look, I am wondering whether my plan is feasible. I...
