So what you are saying is that I should add oxygen instead of ammonia?

Alright, I will consider it if the problem gets worse. I got some new plants today! Quite happy with the way it looks now. I got one mangrove root as well, but I will wait until my filter is cycled so it doesn't lower the pH too much. NH4 was at <0,05 mg/l today, very pleased with that since I...

I don't have any algae at the moment, but I guess they will turn up sooner or later. About the killer snails; won't their "house" (don't know the term in english) be broken due to the soft water? I thought they required some extra minerals in the water.

Ok, so I need some advise on what to do with the following problem; SNAILS! When I got home today I noticed that there was one which was hanging around on one of my plants. What do I do about them? Just take them out? I see some people fix it with other types of snails, but since my water is...

Oh okay, then I get what you wrote in the last post ;) I am adding doses of 0,5 ml of ammonia when I see the levles are lower than 2 mg/l, so that it reaches 4-5mg/l. The trend at the moment is that the levels are dropping with about 1mg/l per day. I don't have a test for nitrite, but I'm...

Honestly, I think I will continue with the ammonia. It doesn't make sense to me that the plants alone will be sufficient enough to colonize the filter. If you have and article on behalf on that method, I would like to read it. And I don't have any oto's now, I just have that one tank. I think I...

What I have on the left is Echinodorus Tenellus. I will stick with the plants I already have. Just add some more Tenellus, Hydrocotyle Leucocephala, E. Bleheri. Maybe some Hydrocotyle Verticillata. Nice suggestions though, for some other tank.

I am a student, and I live quite far away from home. So we are talking me going away every christmas and every summer. At christmas there will be about 2 weeks without waterchange, don't know about summer. Probably about the same.

How do I know what my filtercapacity is? If that is at thing one can know about. Just thought I should add some pictures. First one is how it is now, second is how I plan on having it. Lovely drawings, right. I may rearrange it, but that will be later. Also, leaves are going in when my filter is...

I have been looking at some tetras now, and I actually think it would be nice with a group of Hemigrammus erythrozonus. They are nice to look at, and they are cheap. Also I red that some ditherfish will make the apistos less aggressive, so maybe it isn't a bad idea. Unless they will make the...

I wasn't planning on having any ditherfish other than otocinclus tbh. But I'll see if my fish store has anything interesting. Guppies and danios prefer harder water than the apistos though, so I think I will avoid them.

Well, I don't have a lot of vegetation at the moment. One hydrocotyle, one sword I don't know the name of, and 3 Echinodorus Tenellus. I use the ammonia-method because I have used it before, and had good experience with it last time. By all over the place I ment that they would float around in...

    Help with my water

With higher kh you get higher pH. That's probably why. Kh acts as a buffer for pH and makes it more stable, so low kh will probably make your pH less stable. But in order to keep a low pH value, you also have to keep the kh value quite low. Lower than 5.

Acctually, I'm wrong. It's called Bioflow ONE. I got it together with my Juwel Primo 60, the new series with LED lighting. But yes, there are two blue sponges, but no carbon. I suppose I can google my way to find out if there is place for it if needed. I will ask my LFS if they can give me...

Those ceramic filter mediums you mention, can they be added to any filter? I have a Juwel Eccoflow, and there is some open space at the back of it, just behind where the blue filter medium is. If you get what I mean.

My filter is cycling at the moment. I started adding ammonia last week, and today my NH4-levles were at 1.5. So things are happening. Hopefully I can add some fish in about a month. It has a 300 l/h capacity if that means anything.

I see. I will probably have them with a group of otocinclus, but no more than that. What would be the thing to do if I'm at home and the same thing happens? I don't have a spare tank. I can post a picture of my tank, but I'm thinking redmoore roots, densly planted with different types of swords...

Hi! I am thinking about getting a pair of A.Agassizii fire red. I have read several places that this species is sensitive to poor waterquality; will they survive if I go on vacation for 2-3 weeks? I will probably get an automatic feeder so they at least get some food. I have a 60 litre (15...
