I do not have a precise collection location, Rio Negro is as good as I got. Is there another “variety” outside of ( formerly cf diplotaenia) psammophila from the Orinoco/Atabapo?
If you’re going full on RO/blackwater, cacatuoides is probably a less than ideal species as they’re typically found in clear/white water. Perhaps A. allpahuayo would be a good cacatuoides type alternative that’s more blackwater friendly
At 1.25-1.5”, the males will start to get some of the red color in the face, and display a broken lateral band. Females will display a black face, some red in the flanks, and display black bars. Has been pretty reliable for me, not sure if this would apply to other populations of adoketa?
First time around I had only a trio. Between the aggression from the male, and the bickering amongst the girls, I could never get them past wigglers.
Second time around was a bit of a mess ( multiple populations of sp. abacaxis, and some pulchra mixed in, hence the multiple males per female (...
Personally, I’d just continue to watch. The last time I had abacaxis I kept groups of 5m/2f, and it went quite a bit better than the first time I kept abacaxis….

Cf regani/sp Orinoco dwarf seems more probable
Odd. I wouldn’t think it’s the soft water….mine comes out of the tap very soft, no hatch issues. What temp are you hatching at? Sufficient aeration? The only time I’ve ever had hatch/hatch rate issues is when I found a 10 year old can in the garage freezer…10yr = 10% hatch rate in that failed...
