There is this oddity i never understood - being a genus apistogramma doesn't make it uniquely different than any other cichild or dwarf cichild.
While there are certain rules that can be applied to certain closely related species of apisto (organized by groups and complex); most of these rules...
Jeff has them not sure if he explicitly imported them or if they came as part of an import. The only pictures i could find where the ones Miguel posted:
https://apistogramma.com/forum/threads/nice-pair-of-wc-apistogramma-arua-from-aquaticclarity.23453/
Which of course are usually a little...
I didn't see them but i did see something interesting at 7:09 but no clue what species that might be.
I know zero german - despite living in vienna for a year.
Translation of the above (via google translate):
The female fish possesses a relatively sharp head profile, while the male features a red spot on its gill cover; sex differentiation becomes possible at approximately six months of age.
There is a Holopristis guyanensis - weird - Jeff described it as a pretty but nasty fish similar to silver tip tetra. The pictures of holopristis guyanensis looks a bit different than silver tip as whether it is nasty - well i tend to avoid nasty fishes ;)
Both of these tetra are for sale on Jeff's site but i've never heard of them and can't really find any information on them. I think h. sp macheriche is mispelled but the one site that reference it had an unreliable picture and information:
link...
Going back to those yurmies orang tetra; now that it has been another week i ahve two comments:
the plus is they now mostly hang near the top and the red in their tail has significantly intensified - the negative is they eat anything and everything they can get ahold of - the only tetra i have...
There is a simple way just ask the ladies to line up on the right and the gentlemen to line up on the left; and toss the non compliant members of the group ;)
I was going to write an answer but i think i will stop since it isn't all that informative so in saving move i will note that the biggest news is no news as tomc website hasn't noted any thing new in over a year.
The problem is i'm more interested in detail behavior of the fishes then just breeding them. The more species I keep the differences i think i see in how they behave not just with themselves but also around other fishes. We talk generalities about polygamous m/f aggression but some species are...
I guess another way of phrasing this if the tds is 30 - do you really care about the split. We can assume 1 to 1.5 but i would think the lower to go the less certain it becomes - though in the end does it really matter if at tds 10 it is 100% kh or 100% gh (and of course gh itself can be a lot...
Thanks - based on pictures jeff sent i am assuming the catch location was santa isabel but not 100% sure. They were sent with some 'red' elizabeth. Kind of want some blue elizabeth but they seem less common.
Oh well i have one 29 i could put them in but not sure. As for a. sp miua never been...
We have KH and GH - while there is a well discussed correlation between KH and ph and impact on bacteria types which in terms can impact fish immunity based on the environment they been exposed to - but when we talk about impact to fish metabolism and organs is there a distinction between KH and...
I have a 2nd group in a darker aquarium but they still seem to prefer the bright areas to hang out - conversely the orange tetra prefer to the dark area - the 2nd group of morse code are in a 100 (gallon) and the 2nd group of orange tetra are in a 65 (gallon); the above morse code is in a 29...
