One thing i never understood is why everyone reports PH associated with fishes. My crude understanding is PH is a by product of water chemistry and fishes are more concern with water chemistry then the actual PH. Reporting PH constantly leads to confusion with people trying to lower the ph...
Both of these tetra are for sale on Jeff's site but i've never heard of them and can't really find any information on them. I think h. sp macheriche is mispelled but the one site that reference it had an unreliable picture and information:
link...
We have KH and GH - while there is a well discussed correlation between KH and ph and impact on bacteria types which in terms can impact fish immunity based on the environment they been exposed to - but when we talk about impact to fish metabolism and organs is there a distinction between KH and...
I can't find much about these fishes other than that there are a few colour forms. Are they highly aggressive like trifs or more passive like lizzies; i presume they are polgymous but being in their own little complex i'm not sure - when i first saw pictures of them I thought they were...
I have a group of d39 (pictures shown here:

I believe at this point they are old enough to breed but have never seen any desire for breeding - my believe is i have 2 solid large males, 2 likely females and 1 maybe female. The aquarium is a 65...
When i click the picture thingy to insert an image like i do on a forum post but in a message to someone i can't actually upload an image i have to post a link.
On Feb 13 I ordered a pair of Nanochromis Transvestitus which arrived on Feb 14 2026. I had wanted Nanochromis teugelsi but they had sold out between making my order and shipping.
I had a 29 with some tucano, morse code tetra and humming bird tetra setup with 3 female wc elizabeth. Since I...
This is a female winkelfleck approx 3 years old and i can't tell what happened to its scales. It is only on one side - she is an eager beaver when it comes to feeding and otherwise shows no issues. I do have whiptails in the aquarium now and i would think doubtful but could one have mauled her ...
I think this has probably be answered before but maybe not - is it the actual ph that triggers the type of bacteria that grows for nitrification or is it the water chemistry and lack of kh/ions that causes this change in bacteria. I.e, if i pump in a lot of co2 into 8.5 water i doubt it will...
These two pictures where provided as an import by someone with mix species:
They were suppose to be columbia bitaeniata which i believe the nicer ones are - but the ones with band look odd - a bit of searching and the only two species i could find with veritcal band were mitu and psammophila...
I have a set of f1 nijjensi somewhere between 6 and 10 months old. the largest 2 or 3 are 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch and the smallest are around 1/4 to 1/2 inch (big divergence). I only have 9 and want a new pair from the group but am having a difficult time sexing them because they keep morphing their...
I have one of two pairs of inspira and bluketa for 'sale' they are f1 - i also have a couple of extra male inspira. The fishes are free under the following conditions:
a) you live in usa (sorry not going to pay for international shipping much less paper work et all)
b) you have demonstrated...
I have a 29 with 2 f0 (wc) females and 3 or 4 f1 females and am looking for 1 or 2 males. Not 100% sure yet how i would handle them - the two f0 females i had came to an agreement around a male but i think the f1s will cause a lot of fighting - so will probably put the male with the f0 female in...
This is more of a commentary but after I put my foot in my mouth and assumed the ph was super low only to have it measured out at 6.4 i went and spot checked 5 aquariums and all of those measured below 6 (more precisely hte api test kit was bright yellow which is the lowest it measured @ 6.0)...
These were sold as a. gibbiceps (possibly as females):
I realize the images are a bit blurry and will try for better one - but how would i distinguish between a. gibbiceps and cf uaupesi; tom's website talks about pointers on the male but not the female. One thing i think is that these two...
99.99% male
75% female
not sure at all
not sure (same fish as above)
male ?
All fishes are the same age (or same catch) and i believe all are over a year old.
I don't have pictures (yet) but someone is selling these though it is possible the species is incorrect. They were exported as uaupesi but they think they are 'colourful' gibbiceps.

The aquarium i have free is 100 gallons and was thinking 2 males and 4 females but not sure between them or...
My probe suggest my aquarium has a ph close to 4.6 (doubt this is accurate); mrs. google sez my fishes will immediately die. Why haven't my fished died ?
I rephrase the question and now mrs google is tongue tied and saying:
Presence of Acid-Tolerant Bacteria: While common aquarium nitrifying...
