Just picked up a small group of cacatuoides the other day. From observing them get settled in their tank I am trying to figure out how many m/f I may have. Just wondering what your thoughts are on this little one? Thanks!

Nice sharp photo, but the gold forms are really hard to tell sex, without any dark pigments. Fortunately cacatu's mature quickly and start pairing off ... then you'll know. If they're all the same age, the bigger ones are more likely males, but thats just a generalization.

Thanks for your input Gerald. I have had a chance to record some of their behaviour in the tank as well. Maybe this could shed some light on it?

The big one is definitely male, the one participating in the displaying looks to be male also. The one in the background could be a female that they are competing for.

Thanks guys. I have come to the conclusion that I have two males and a female. The smaller male and female have somewhat paired off so I have moved the larger male into another tank. Thanks again!

My guess is the black blotches on Peruvian wild fish are a parasite and not a pigment on the fish itself. I know my wildcaught A. cf. luelingi (Cristal) have these black blotches and they are not seen on their offspring.

Mike, what do you treat them with? Seen quite a number of wild apistos sold that have similar blotches but you seem to imply that it's only in Peruvian fish? Does treatment remove the blotches?
