I don't see anything in the first picture to indicate female. however I don't really see anything to indicate male either. What size is this fish?

Hi thanks for the reply the fish in question is around 30mm

It's hard to say then as the fish is still small. It could be a male in disguise being bullied by the larger male. However my guess is that it is a female. I am not at all certain though. More pictures may help.

Cheers I will get the camera out later when the lights come on. I may order a couple more females online just in case

Hi all,
I can't help with the gender of your "female" hongsloi, but the variegated plant in the photos above is a Dracaena, and not an aquatic. You need to take it out of the tank, although they make good house plants.

It really p*sses me off that shops are still selling non-aquatics as tank plants.

<Dracaena fragrans - RHS>.

cheers Darrel

There is damage to the dorsal, ventral, and caudal fins indicative of bullying. That is all I can tell you from picture.

That probably explatns the fin damage. Some males are quite aggressive trying to entice a female to spawn. If he is too busy after spawnong you may need to remove him to protect eggs and fry.
