It really depends on many factors: food & frequency; water quality/changes; temperature probably being the most important. Under the most optimum conditions, some breeders have been able to grow fry to being sexable in 90-100 days. Under normal good conditions, expect 6-8 months.

Lovely male. You have to be aware these triple red and other selectively bred Caccas dont breed true and you will get all sorts of fin colouration(most really nice but different).Thats what Ive found with caccas and aggas of this type anyway

Thats ineresting
Ive spawned triple red caccas and aggas and the fry have been all over the place. Is that because the exporters chuck in any old females not the selectively bred stuff??

Well, in older female it should be possible to tell if it's Orange Flash or something else. Usually, you can even tell if it's double or triple red. My cacas of the later generations usually have the red-black pattern on 5 fins (dorsal, caudal, anal, and 2 pelvic fins), which I call "Pentacle Red", and this always becomes visible in both males and females when they reach certain ages, sometimes a bit later in females. By observing this, you should have some idea of how their babies would look like.

However, I believe that Flash is a recessive trait, meaning it can show up even when none of the parents is a Flash.

Hi all,
However, I believe that Flash is a recessive trait, meaning it can show up even when none of the parents is a Flash.
I think this is right and that "chequering" is the dominant gene.

First, the domestic strains of A. cacatuoides don't actually come from 'exporters', i.e. from the wild. OK, I guess the suppliers could be considered exporters if they are from another country. Nevertheless, domestic strains are only as good as the breeder who reproduced them. Some are more conscientious about culling than others.

A. agassizii is probably the most polychromatic apisto in the wild. I collected 3 color morphs from the same location. Domestic strains are usually well 'set', but again it depends on the breeder.
