Have been a Canon fans for years, but that new DSLR 5DII really disappointed me, Perhaps it is time to change my system to Nikon.

Here are some pics with my new toy, I am still learning how to use this whole new system, even though Nikon is more sharp, but I still like the color of Canon

By the way, if you change photographing system only for taking better pics of your fish... you are crazy:biggrin: But that's good craziness:wink:

I didn't change system, I am still keeping my Canon.
But yes, I bought the Nikon for taking better pics of fish and also products of my company.

What have you changed to? :)

Hi there,

I used to have a Minolta SLR, but recently I was bought a Panasonic LUMIX BMC-FZ18 digital camera. Pretty pleased with it but went on a camera course to discover that I will not be able to get any better macro pictures unless I spend several hundred pounds on an additional lens and lens ring - drat. I guess I will just have to make do with the ones I get, and wait for the subject to get to come close to the tank side.

I don't know if you know this. If you have a newer Minolta film SLR, the lenses will work on Sony's digital SLRs. Sony bought the rights to the Minolta mount when Konica/Minolta went out of business. If you have a newer Minolta macro lens, it will work a the Sony.

Yes, my friend is a Minolta fans, he hates both Canon and Nikon. He is considered to buy Sony A900. :)

Hate is a bit strong for me. I am not a fan of Canon DSLRs. The photos come out too 'plastic looking', because to cameras' processing software seems to overcompensate for noise reduction. Nikons are fine if you can afford them. Their beginner DSLRs can only autofocus when they use the 2 'cheaper quality' kit lenses or the very expensive professional lenses (& a few third party lenses). The Sony A900 is a nice camera, but somewhat limited in its selection of lenses. At a camera price of $2900 (even with the larger 35mm equivalent sensor), I would expect more. The Sony cameras have a very 'clunky' feel for me & are not comfortable. I got a Pentax K20D for several reasons. First of all, I picked Pentax because all of my old Pentax lens - both screw thread & bayonet mounts - work on this camera. Some of my lenses are 40 years old! No other camera manufacturer can do this with their older lenses. Even old Nikkor non-AI lenses mount on this camera without an adaptor. Pentax has always made very good cameras with great ergonomics. They feel good in the hand and all of the dials & buttons seem to be in the 'right place'. The weather sealing is very good. I took it to the Amazon where it landed in jungle mud and damp leaf litter. When it got muddy, I just used a wet (not damp) cloth to clean the outside. I even took photos in the rain with no problems. Pentax has never really claimed to be a 'professional' photographer's camera although its line of lenses competes with the best from other companies. They just give you more camera for the $.
