    Apisto. eremnopyge

I did not have any dithers with them. They where housed in a ten gallon with some clumps of java moss and some clay pots. From what i have heard, the lower pH like Marc's are prefered but since mine spawned readily with the pH around 6.5, I never bothered lowering the pH.

    ID Please!

In addition to males having a streak and females having blotch on the cheek, also look at the ventral fins. The females with have black edges on the ventrals while the males won't. Trevor

    Apisto. eremnopyge

When they spawned for me, the water was around 50ppm TDS and a pH of about 6.5. I remember them being sensitive to water quaility. The ones i had were also the most skittish apistos I have ever seen. Good luck. Trevor

    Mozambique tilapia

I know they are popular with the bowfisherman here in Arizona.

    Feeding Apistos

I have read that the exoskeleton of bloodworms can cause problems as it can be difficult for the fish to pass. I have never had this problem with my fish though, I feed blood worms as the main food to my apistos. I do try to mix things up and feed bbs, grindal worms, frozen brine shrimp...

Good books for Eartheaters, Crenicichla, and Central American Cichlids

Thanks for letting me know about the eartheater book. I have just finished placing my order for it. That is a bummer that there are no english versions available of the other fine books discussed. Now if I can just find some more good books on some of my other fish interests: Loricarids...

    How to ship cichlids

I have never used bag buddies and my fish have shipped well. I also use pure O2 in the bag. You could probaly get away without using O2 but it would require a much larger bag to hold more air. One of the benifits of filling the bags with pure O2 is that the fish can be packed in much smaller...

    will oak leafs help?

In my experience oak leaves have almost no effect on water chemisty in the amount that I have placed them in my tank (around 25 leaves in a 20 long). I have two reasons for adding oak leaves into my tanks. The first is to give the tanks a more natural appearence, the second is provide cover...

    Crenicichla regani "Tapajos'

my female has a black ocelli that is lined in red, the one that i believe is a male (no ocelli) does not have any extensions on its dorsal fin. I really wish i had got them from a supplier who knew something of there orgins but I found them at one of the large pet chains. Petsmart or Petco...

    Crenicichla regani "Tapajos'

Nice fish Ted, do you have any more pics? I am curious because I have a pair of dwarf pikes and still have not figured out what species they are. At first I was not even sure if they were dwarfs but I have had them for around 7 months and they are still about 4 inches. They look very similar...

    Any recommendations ?

My personal favorite book and the one I use most often at work is Fish Disease Diagnosis and Treatment by Edward J. Noga. I'm told that it is pricey but I am not sure how much.

    Alternate first food for fries

I have had good luck with micro worms as a first food. The fish will accept them and grow but my favorite is still bbs. The fry just grow faster on bbs than micro worms. I am guessing the brine shrimp have a higher nutrition value. Trevor
