The n. Rubros are much more active but they don’t show any aggression towards the other two species. However, a particular n. Eques actually chases everyone in the tank.
I got the rubro with a bargain, around 4usd per fish ;)
Thank you Mike! From what you have mentioned, does that mean the pair won’t work even with the suggested water parameters? Or do you suggest me to lower the pH and KH before getting another female? I am currently keeping them with otos, nannostomus eques and rubrocaudatus as dithers, I believe...

I picked up a pair of apistogramma velifera in October last year but I have difficulty to have them breeding.
The water parameters are as follow:
pH: around 6.5-7 (currently using peated water to lower)
TDS: 100
kH: ~6
The fish shop told me I’ll have to keep the pH at around 6 for them...
Thanks Mike, yeh it could be nutritional issue because there's a period when I only managed to feed on alternate days. Do you think the damaged fin would be due to stunting or fin nipping among themselves?

Yes, I tried feeding that several times to my apisto but he just put the pellet in his mouth and spit out unfortunately. It is even when I know he's hungry.
They cost around 10 euro for 70g here, double the price when comparing with other brands but I was just giving it a try. I heard Dr Bassleer fish food works well too.
I only feed live or frozen BBS, but recently I realised the wc apistos love the ADA AP Fish food! I'm not sure where you can get them in the US and they would be quite expensive out there.

I guess what we see mostly nowadays in fish shops are commercially bred n. beckfordi, it would kinda be impossible to see different strains of them.
That makes sense! Different locations of the same species would have slightly different...
