About month ago I got these fishes as a pair of Laethacara Dorigera. Recently I posted it on some other forum and I got reponse that they might be two females not a pair. What do you think?
If you are serious about soft water dwarves sooner or later you got to buy RO unit unless you got cheap source of soft water. My tap water has PH about 7.8 and after RO filtration it comes down to 6.8.
Question why do you need to have it 7.5?
Formalin seems a little bit radical to me. I did 70% water change and added new dose of CopperSafe. Viejitas seem to respond well to this. I haven't seen them scratching today and male is stretching his fins. Mardel recommends using this medication for 1 months so I guess it's not very strong...
The only symptoms I can observe are folded fins and scratching. Ocassionally fish is shaking like it wanted to shake something off. Fish do not loose colors and eat normally but gradually start staying apart form others. It attacks only Macmasteri and related apsitos so far. Other fish including...
A. sp. "Masken" or "Cara Pintada' are more often names for "Tiger-Stripe". I believe it comes from Peru and it should be spawned like A. cacatuoides. I bought 6 1/2" and raised them for 5 months. After that I could not make them stop breeding. Once I got 3 females with eggs in 12G tank :-)
For reasons beyond my control I was forced stay outside of US for two months. I left my tankes under supervision of my co-worker who never got aquarium. He was asked to drop weekend food once every couple days. To make it even worse I forgot and switched off heating in two tanks. I thought...
I tried almost everything available in fishstores without success. I even tried cat wormer Erliworm :-) I went to a vet to get prescription for Panacur but when I calculated that it would be more expensive than my fishes I gave up. Finally I found on some Discus group that there is medication...
99% of my dwarfs come from PCCA auctions. I have learned that got best result buying school of fry rather pair of adults. Young fish are more like to aclimate to your tank conditions. It takes longer to get them breed but they usually much healthier.
There is PCCA member who is sellling Rotpunt fry on club auctions recently. He also sells on Aquabid. I might have a chance to speak to him next Saturday.
