It will probably take 2-3 days until hatching starts.. and approx. 7-10 days until free swimming.. but females often (not always) prefer to change and move into another cave during this period... so you may see some cool actions if this is the case.. ( her preparing cave/hidingplace no2.. and...
Hi !!
My experience is female Apistos only "dig" sand after spawning, not before or during ..so I`d say fertilization has already been completed.. ( often the female can be seen having a slimmer stomach/bellly after spawning..)
That also probably explains the behaviour of the male.. "His 1st job...
I would check and ask with your store if possible.. You ought to be able to return the one/s you don`t want to keep..
Maybe they can order a matching fish for the one you want .. from a wholesaler or breeder..??
Females of any Apisto are often harder to get than males !!!

Hi Camille + all..
I´ve kept small Apistos with Boraras-species, Pseudoepiplatys annulatus, Aplocheilichthys macrophthalmus , Aplocheilus blockii , Pseudomugil luminatus and Aspidoras-species successfully in planted tanks without any "motorized filter" .... But .. with some parts of the bottom...
Awesome fish + pics !!
My guess on pic 2-4 :
The yellow color in combination with the short dorsal spines (1-6) + short pelvic fins indicates that it might be a female..
, and "she" also differ from the male in the red(dorsal) + yellow(body) colors + a more abrupt ending of the dorsal fin...
Sorry to hear about the loss..
I`ve never experienced an Apisto jumping out of the tank before..., only killies , tetras, and other fish...
I watched your video again and can only see 3 things that might have contributed to this.
- The female being a small male.. Are you sure that the...
