    question ph

If you are using pure RO water i wonder where KH 2 and 3 come from. Did you maybe initially fill up the tanks with tap water and that KH is a left over? Then after the next water changes your KH will be lower and the humic substances will push down the PH over time. But if your RO-Water has KH 2...

    Apistogramma psammophila F1

I just wanted to mention that i'll be driving through northern belgium to Breskens on friday. So if someone happens to live along that route and is interested in these fish, i could hand them over somewhere.

    Apistogramma psammophila F1

Hello, i'm selling some F1s of Apistogramma psammophila. I'd ask for €15 per fish. They are about 2cm or above. Their parents were imported by Zierfischzentrum Austria in December 2023. I currently have more females than males, so i'd prefer to give away like 1m2f or 2m3f. Shipping within...

    What to do now?

Those wavemaster 120 give me nostalgia. I'm suprised they still work, they must be like 25 years old.

    with Discus?

On one hand, the concrete structures that you are planning with cracks and crevices to hide in reminds me a lot of how Oliver Lukanus describes the habitat of A. psammophila (close relative of A. diplotaenia) ( beginning at minute 2 ). But on the other hand, species of the the A. diplotaenia...

    with Discus?

@MacZ I think we had that conversation before, but i don't quite understand why you want discus to be kept in temperatures lower than 27°C. Even though they live in the same geographic range as most Apistogrammas they don't live in the shaded forest streams but seek larger waters that are more...

    with Discus?

Hi, I kept Apistogramma diplotaenia together with Heckel discus for a while and it worked well. Both like it warm.

Interesting behavior of male A. psammophila

All i can say is that this tank with a footprint of 50x70cm didn't work with the specimens i have, even though it was structured with some wood and stuff (i took that out recently when i had to catch out half grown fry and didn't put it back in yet). The female pushes the male out of the inner...

Interesting behavior of male A. psammophila

Yes, it reminded me of that too. I once had wild caught Dicrossus and i loved the leaf flipping behavior. Unfortunately after a while they did it less, i guess they learned that food comes from above and turning leaves doesn't really pay off anymore. But here it seems to be more about carrying...

    Typhonodorum lindleyanum

Just to wrap this thread up: For a while they were fast growing nice to look at emersed plants. But after some months i lost them to lice. The leaves that exceed the lid of the tank and are permanently dry seem to be prone to lice. I guess in nature they are exposed to rain on a daily basis so...

Interesting behavior of male A. psammophila

Hi, after a pair of A. psammophila recently spawned in the left side of a breeding tank, i added a small mirror at the right side of the tank, to keep the male busy and away from the female (it's just a temporary solution, i'll remove the male soon anyway). After 2 hours or so the male was...

    What to do now?

Then have a good aquaristic detox, and next year you'll have a fresh start with an all new concept.

    What to do now?

That's sad to hear. If it's mainly about the money, I wonder if you could have saved quite some money for heating by just covering the tank with a glass sheet?

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

I don't really see though why a glass electrode shouldn't be sufficient in very soft water. It might take a while for a final result but if you have the electrode attached to the tank permanently (like i do) that's not an issue. I calibrate it like every 2 months or so. If it's been a while...

Can I make blackwater using my tap water?

If your cheap ph meter's display happens to have a bnc port, you could by a decent glass electrode and re use the display.
