    I found

I understand. She has had him about 3 or 4 months now. He eats and is active, seemingly healthy, but has always looked sickly. We didn't think he was going to live at first, but so far, so good. Mike mentioned his spine is probably curved wrong due to inbreeding. Weak genes connected to the...

    I found

Here is that fish my friend has. It does seem a bit oddly shaped, but still look cacatuoides other than that. The online seller said it came from a spawn of super reds.

    I found

A friend of mine recently bought what was supposed to be a super red a. cacatuoides via an online sale. The fish she received looks almost identical to the one you pictured. Now that it is mature, it is definitely the shape, size, mannerisms of the labeled species, is male and has very very...

Cacatuoides fry alert - please advise

When I first started asking questions earlier this year, I was told of some excellent resource books. I haven't had the funds for them but I will try to find the post and copy past the info back here. Also, Tom's website is a wealth of info too.

How much BBS is too much for fry?

I like oddballs and aesthetically challenged critters. =) I will have to look those up.

How much BBS is too much for fry?

Thanks for the details and info! Sounds like you have quite the fish room setup. I'm a total newbie with my two little pairs of cacs, shrimp and some community tanks. I've been feeding the fry a mix of frozen baby brine shrimp, dried cyclops and live microworms. My brine shrimp hatchery...

Cacatuoides fry alert - please advise

Congrats on your fry!! Keep us posted on how it goes. <3 If it's an option at all financially and you have a Petco near you, they are doing their dollar per gallon sale. I just picked up a 10g and a 20 long for only 30$ total! I have all the bits and pieces of equipment floating around for...

How much BBS is too much for fry?

I see this is a somewhat older post, but I'm glad to stumble on it anyways. Been wondering the same sort of things as I am currently raising my first batch of fry. Now I dont need to make a post to ask. ;) How did things go with your fry after this Ben? Any more batches since? I hope it's...

    Breeding in community tank problem

Beautiful pictures! What'd you shoot them with? I recently got some new macro lenses for my Nikon d3500 but my tanks are so dim and tannin heavy I'm still not having much luck. I want better lights but dont think the fish would appreciate it.

I have eggs! a. cacatuoides, first spawn

Here is the male, chillin' in his bachelor pad. Just dont judge me for my rescued glotetras! ;) A friend got in over her head and gave me all her fish.

I have eggs! a. cacatuoides, first spawn

The more they grow the more they wander away from momma. They dont seem to stick to any particular cave at this point, although the mom has one she prefers. The fry tend to stay in a loose group for the most part and she is always near by watching them. They particularly seem to spend a lot of...

I have eggs! a. cacatuoides, first spawn

The fry seem to be doing well. Athena is being a very good mom. I am feeding dried cyclops and frozen bbs with a Turkey baster. I feed in small amounts a few times a day. No good pictures yet but you can at least see some of the babies in these. Just ignore the ratty looking plants! The...

    Rio Orinoco biotope questions

Oh wow! Thank you Tom! Stunning pictures. They remind me so much of the months I spent in Brazil. Of course I was 15 and not paying much attention to fish at the time. We traveled up the Madeira on boats very much like the ones in your pictures. The rain storm we traveled in was thankfully...

    Female or male?

Thanks! So far they seem to be getting along and keeping to themselves. My biggest worry if they were indeed both males was that they'd fight and hurt each other but so far so good. *knock on wood* it's a pretty jungly, planted 20 long, with lots of cave and rock and driftwood hide options.
