quick update: feed the pair nothing but micros for 2 days and now the female has taken up residence in the male's cave, the male is quickly evicted whenever he goes in and only coming out for food. So things are finally happening:biggrin:
Just scrap your finger around the side of the culturing container, rinse if you want or just swirl your finger in the tank. Microworms are also great at getting pair into breeding mode. After weeks of feeding up my cac's on frozen bs, micros and bloodworms, i feed nothing but microworms for 2...
Yes, patience........lots and lots of patience. My cac's have been together for 2-3 mths, every week they go through the motions of courtship, inspecting caves together, herding dithers to the corners and then nothing. Good luck, won't happen overnight but it will happen.......hopefully:frown:
Go with cac's their great. As for plants and digging, mine leave them alone and the only digging is in or around their spawning cave generally.
As for 2 pairs, personally i'd have one male and 3 or 4 females, they do better in harems then pairs apprently
Female came out for food just now and her colours have changed she gone darker and all stripes up, fins are almost as orange as the males (both orange-flash) and her underside has a faint bluey/green colour......so fingers crossed
I've started using a small mirror(20min at a time max) to trick the pair into thinking that there is another pair in the tank seems to be working, the male's colours are more vibrant and his dorsal fin seems to be growing by the day! I re-arranged the tank a bit and added some large floating...
My pair have been teasing me for the past few weeks, courting, checking out spawning sites, the male clears the livebearers to one side of the tank, then the male chases the female (normal i know) but then nothing, this repeats every few days. Been feeding frozen bloodworms, daphina, bs and live...
Should really enrich the brine shrimp before feeding as brine shrimp (over 24hrs old) are very nutritionally poor. Put the required amount of shrimp in a small container of saltwater and add a product like this - http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com/c8/Super-SELCO-c52.html or feed them some...
I either just smash up/ bruise a whole clove or crush some garlic and squeeze the juice out using a piece of musin, cheesecloth or a new chux and add to the water your defrosting the frozen food in. DON'T use pre crashed garlic from the jar, contains preservatives and god knows what else

For sure!!!! Looks about 1/2 sized at the moment, once they mature they develop golden shoulders, faintly banded bluey backhalf and bright red anal fin and fin edges
