    Apisto ID and surprise babies!

They were definitely spread out and all putzing around doing their own thing. Only fish in tank were mom, dad, 4 small male guppies, 10 c. habrosus that were refugees from another tank (a new tank is cycling for them) and 4 amano shrimp. They all disappeared at once, for the most part. There...

    Apisto ID and surprise babies!

Bad news! I saw the babies Sunday and I didn't peak at them on Monday due to plans and all of them are gone. Dad is now out and courting mom again instead of hiding from her. Did she eat them? They were about a month and a half old. Bummed out :( Hope they try again! The male is now getting...

    Apisto ID and surprise babies!

Thank you for your input! So the male is very lackluster, and the google images of A. macmasteri are much more handsome. Could my male be relatively immature and still be breeding? How long will the fry take to mature? Probably more quickly if I fed 2x a day more consistently?

    Apisto ID and surprise babies!

Hello again everyone! I "accidentally" got two apistos from my LFS. I just happened to be there as a shipment arrived and all of the apistos in the bag were near-death or dead, so the employee gave two to me for free. I was in the process of setting up a 70g tank with nice, soft, fine sand (it's...

Hello everyone! Hoping to learn a lot here :)

I'm very excited by him! Wish there was more information out there about him, I scoured the net last night and found many pages that google translate helped me out with, but still not very much info. And I'm in Holyoke, just north of your former Springfield! What were things like 30 years ago...

Hello everyone! Hoping to learn a lot here :)

Phew, okay! I might need to think about the apistos in a smaller tank then because I also had my heart set on a big school of c. habrosus in my 75g as one of the highlights. Corys are such bumblings goof they do seem like they wouldn't get the message regarding territory! As far as substrate, I...

Hello everyone! Hoping to learn a lot here :)

Hello! I have a 45g community tank with 4 a.agassizi in it, as well as some cardinal tetras, 3 new checkerboard cichlids, a bristlenose pleco and some corydoras. I am in the process of setting up a 75g tank this month that will be cory, apisto, and checkerboard cichlid focused. Trying to make an...

I got a mystery cichlid in my checkboard cichlid order, maybe an apisto?

Hello folks! Just joined this lovely forum today, but I've fallen in love with apistos over the past two years so I'm sure I'll be enjoying all the forum has to offer as I set up my new 75g tank. I placed a special order at my LFS for some checkerboard cichlids and didn't check the bag until...
