I think it may have mixed along the way - either transhipper, supplier in Australia or at the LFS itself, I bought them from a shop that supposedly sold them to me as Ortegai, but when I took them home, I noticed a pair very different to the Ortegai( 3 males). They could have landed as wild who...
Hi,
I have a pair of contaminant that came with Ortegai, I quite like them but am unsure of their ID. Would someone be able to tell me what they are? This is the male.
Looks selective bred but since you're sure it's wild, good on you. Nice fish, I get my fish from Orange so regardless of them having inferior genetics - they're precious to me.
Let me start off by suggesting a tiny fish called Rasbora Maculatas, they are easy to find and are very good with a pair of apistos. If you want Boraras brigittae because they are prettier, go ahead, but they cost more as a dither fish.

Hi and welcome to the best forum for Apistogramma on the web! We have beginners and intermediate plus gurus on this forum, ask away if you have any questions. Some of us here like wild-caught apisto, some prefer domestic bred fish because they are more hardy to keep.
I for one love the...

Welcome back to the fold! Must have been hard staying away - the game has changed in 20 years for me, I've learnt how to use an RO filter to increase my breeding success with certain rarer fish. Its been incredibly fun!
MacZ, we use the metric system in Aust. No need to be so confrontational when replying, we are here to learn from each other.
I can have my opinion and you can have yours. I stock my tanks - 2 footers for one pair and my Cacatuoides are pretty docile.
What I meant is that when...
Tank looks good with your choice of plants, if you were to get Cacatuoides the new tank would be perfect, I did a quick calculation and its ideal for a pair of apistogramma. Only other fish I would add are some dither fish - to give the pair of apisto bit more confidence so they won't hide all...
