where did you find them?
softer the better, and a ph of under 7 and they should be fine.
Personally I drop them in r/o and 1/10 tap makes a GH of 2, KH 2 and a pH of that annoying Ontario 7.6
peat slowly lowers the pH to a nice 6 ish where the bits did great.
Let me know where you...
Hey Rick, I am sure you know I don't have that species, I'm waiting on your pair! LOL
However, when getting my pH nice and low for my alenquers I added pure R/O on the next few water changes. The hardness drops gradually as the % of solids (ppm) is diluted so each water change removes less and...
With the male:
all fins large and colourful: look at me, I am worthy of mating with.
top fin low, ventral fins extended: you are not welcome.
Responses to either are often the same, laying down on one side, or swimming away, tail whap etc.
The S bend posture is used to say, "I am...
Hmmn , this Discus keeper, Mike had a bad experience in that the peat broke down over time and produced ammonia. Since plants readily take in ammonium this may get used as its produced.
Still, I'll remember that Shamrock was fine for aplanted tank... thanks.
Hi Andrew, thats good to know as I have been told a few horror stories. What brand are you using?
Just in case there's anything you missed, you don't have plants in this tank do you? Secondly, no algae problems or high nitrates in this tank either right?
It'd be good to know a good brand...
borelli to the 10g, cacs and nijisseni in the 40g.
IMHO a 10g is too small for a pair or trio of nijisseni
whatever you do in the 10g, you will need some white clouds for dithers in case the female spawns. In a 10g the females can be too rough on the males.
if same tank, how large is it what else is in there?
if seperate tank, should be fine, I have a personal preference for nijisseni. Behaviour, looks, etc.
If you can be more specific in your questions...
Hi David, there is no industry up there in the north where they cut the Canadian peat, and its sphagnum as opposed to other forms of peat. It doesn't guarentee that you will get good peat, but it does help.
The bag should say Pure Sphagnum Peat wherever it comes from.
As for...
Not all Canadian Peat is created equally. Try another manufacturer.
Pure Peat should not give off ammonia but I did buy some stuff from a garden centre that had ammonia in it. The stuff I get from Canadian tire never has measurable ammonia, not even after on emonth.
At Big als they put in an order for borelli and a large shipment of steelblues showed up. Out of about 30 there was a single female, very identifiable as a female and she was ill.
It appears that the females have some sort of genetic weakness and they simply don't survive often.
I have...
How hard is the water you are talking about?
I mean, if its soft water but a high pH then peat filtration or injected co2 is a breeze. If we are talking about hard water with a KH of 7 or more, then you won't find a sure bet and you will get conflicting opinions on what works and what doesn't.
Doesn't look like the same fish to me, the pulchra have the definate pulchra tail. The one pic is on both areas, that may be an error or (I can't read the text) it may be showing it for comparison.
