I have got a Apisto. Cacatuoides (double red) for sale as a whole setup list below:
- ADA 60F tank (24" x 12 " x 9 " )
- Cal Aqua glass intake & outflow
- 1 Male, 4 female, 1 tetra.
- All the hardscape (Yamaha Rocks & driftwood) and plants in there (Java Fern)
The tank recently bleed...
Larry you are exactly right !!! they sort of like those "Dirty" tank.
My tank have minimum amount of plants just sand bottom, lots of decay almond leaves and cholla woods and alder cones..etc.
And the fry just LOVES to stay at the most "Dirty" side of the tank. swimming in & out of those cholla...

I now from 40 free swimmers down to around 20. Don't know why... but I guess that's why they laid not just one egg. lol.

Currently I am feeding unlimited supply of BBS at least 2 times a day.
