Dicrossus filamentosus - sexing and advice?

Well, the largest female is looking plump and her ventrals have a slight reddish tinge. The dominant male also seems to be sticking around her and displaying more than usual (gorgeous sight to see!) Im waiting for her to start cleaning a site. If i do end up with a batch of eggs, can anyone...

Dicrossus filamentosus - sexing and advice?

My 2 Pairs of D. filamentosus came the other day, and have been settling in very nicely. Unfortunately i cant say the same for the F1 baenschi trio... The male and a female died, leaving me with 1 lonely female. :( The flight was delayed and the box reached my door 12 hrs later than it should...

    Odd behavior

Or just a water change in general will often do it.

    Odd behavior

Haha, this is the first time ive heard of anyone complaining about there fish acting like pets! Quite funny actually. Are you sure they are a pair? They might need to get used to the tank before they spawn if they are a pair? Good food, good water and a suitable spawning site is all it really...

Dicrossus filamentosus - sexing and advice?

VERY different! Get $95 for a pair! The F1 A. baenschi im getting along with them are $35 each! Spend as much as I do mate, and you would have 3 times as many fish as me! haha

Dicrossus filamentosus - sexing and advice?

Oh cool. My tank is about 2' x 15'' aswell, but half as high, haha. The guy i am buying them off says they have bred for him before, but being in shop had never bothered to to try raise fry. He also said they are from a German shipment, and wasnt sure if they are wild. Is there German/European...

Dicrossus filamentosus - sexing and advice?

Im thinking about grabbing a pair or 2 of D. filamentosus. Would 2 pairs work in a 75 liter, wide, 2 ft tank? according to my quick search on the net they are "peaceful", but are males territorial?

    Low pH and beneficial bacteria

Don't mean to hijack thread, but i was wondering if high ammonia levels push pH up? Im doing a sort of soft cycle in a tank that im using pure rain water in. (coming out of the tank at 5.5) Ive got what i believe to be plain silica sand (play sand from bunnings.) but it seems to be rising to 7.0...

    Apistogramma Diet

Beef heart. Ive read the mammalian fat is not easily digested leading to blockages etc. Mozzie larvae are a good live food. All the stuff that you are feeding is good stuff. (But i cant speak for rotifers cause i dont know what it is lol)

    What are my Apisto's doing?

Sounds like he is interested and she isn't... This is when a decent sized tank and 2 + females works wonders :p

Any Chance they could still breed in the future?

I hadn't thought of sneaker males, but its entirely possible. Which is why multiple females in a decent sized tank is best!
