The view of some in the industry is that Biodiversity Australia eventually want to shut down all imports. At this stage, many people are just waiting to see what will happen after March. Many LFS have closed recently or will close by March. FB trading of livestock and dry goods, as well as...

    Laetacara Curviceps

I'm really not a fan of mixing dwarf species from the same genus in the one tank. For two main reasons, often one species will be much more aggressive than another, and you face the risk of different species pairing up and producing hybrid fry. My experience with Laetacara would be that...

    HELP

Generally clean water is the best treatment for pop eye. I've only experienced it with my wild bettas, usually I think they've scratched their eye. I just up my water changes to once per day, about 50% per water change. I also add my own home made IAL (Indian Almond Leaf) tea to my water...

    Stocking A 75

I have no experience with a species only display tank. But I would take 1 of 2 approaches. 1. Buy as many "trios" as you can afford and overstock the tank somewhat to spread aggression between both sexes and colony as a whole. Something along the lines of at least 6 males and 12 females. 2...

    Laetacara Curviceps

Hi Martin, see my two posts in your other thread. Seems like you nailed it for a male and female. I used to breed Laetacara species in 2x1x15" tanks. I used to have a 6 foot tank that had multiple pairs of curviceps and keyholes in it, but never tried anything smaller with just a pair of each.

Are the Gold veijitas a line bred variant of Macmasteri? Last time I was in the hobby, it was a general belief that there were no true veijitas in the hobby, and that they were all line bred variants of Macmasteri.

    Hello from South Africa

Looking in your bucket photos, I would bet my last brass razoo, that this is a female. And this is a male.

    Hello from South Africa

If they are Curviceps, look in their dorsal fin. These are (poor) photos of my old female. In the middle of her dorsal fin is a metallic spot. Male curviceps do not have a metallic spot in their dorsal. The third photo shows my old pair, the male is in the background.

Unfortunately the local importer and retailer who used to bring in all the niche fish has shut up shop ahead of the impending import changes. I used to have a couple of varieties of Agassizii breeding, but have yet to find anyone else local who also breeds opistos. I know one of the other...
