Thankyou fishy folk ;) that’s great to know , I won’t have to adjust anything. I’m really surprised he had zero markings at all. It was like this in the shop before being moved so it’s not a stress thing.
Hello everyone.
This fish was given to me by my LFS as it came with some cacatoides that all sold and this one didn’t. It’s been alone for at least 3 months and they had no clue on id, he said you may as well take it.
Any id’s would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou :)
I agree. I politely remarked that the females should have been culls and to use another breeder in future but I didn’t want to over step the line too much ! I kept my mouth closed after that.
Thankyou to everyone for taking the time to reply :)
I was honestly shocked at the state of these fish, it made me really sad. I can see why people get disheartened with apistos if this is what the standard is. There’s no way these fish can live a healthy, happy life. No way should those fish be bred .

He offered me the females if I took the male , I...
Can you provide a full tank shot please ? To break lines of sight lots of woods, branches , inert rocks / pebbles and twigs can be carefully structured to provide lots of cover.
Also not relevant to the thread , but leave the net in the tank , just sit it in there , let them see it and get used to it. They’ll be more comfortable to it so don’t see it as a threat , even if it’s a couple of days it can help. Especially if you can drop some favourite food in it...
Small floating plants like duckweed can get sucked into your filter, although if you don’t want a full floating plant mass don’t choose duckweed ! It has it uses but the stuff over takes everything and reproduces so fast.
Red root floaters are pretty and are slower spreading.
Water lettuce...
